This week for Mubi Monday we dive back into the short film offerings on the platform. In fact, the person in the foreground of today’s film is most famous for being in the background. Let’s take a look at…Jill, Uncredited (2022).

Background actors are key to any project. They help to fill out a scene and can even bring one to life. Jill, Uncredited (2022) focuses on one background actor in particular, Jill Goldston. Goldston has appeared in the background of films and television shows for over fifty years.

Unfortunately, if you watched the short film without reading the synopsis first, you wouldn’t have a clue who Jill Goldston is.

What I was hoping for was a look into Jill’s life as a background actor. Maybe a glimpse into why she enjoys it so much, or even interviews with stars she worked with over the course of her fifty-year career. What we got instead was an eighteen-minute supercut of still frames, all showing Jill Goldston in action.

Yes, it was still an interesting watch. However, I would have enjoyed it a lot more if we were given something, literally anything, about Jill Goldston the person. Even in a documentary about her career, she manages to stay in the background.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
