Now that Halloween is behind us, we’re quickly approaching the end of the year. With that, I figured now would be a good time to look ahead at what’s to come as we’re wrapping up 2022.

A quick recap of the end of October. The #150DaysOfHorror challenge on Twitter came down to the wire but I completed it on the 31st. The list of all 150 horror movies I watched for the challenge can be found here. My favorite watch to close out the challenge was easily Saloum. I don’t want to give much away about this one. Watch the trailer below then go check it out on Shudder.

Official trailer for Saloum

Now, let’s talk about how we’ll be wrapping up 2022. Our Margot Robbie filmography watch through will continue on but slightly modified. Instead of continuing on in order of release, we’ll be taking more of a random approach. We’re now at a point in Margot’s career where the majority of her movies will be on streaming. If they aren’t now, they will be eventually. So, rather than paying to rent movies that may not be streaming in a given month, we’ll just pick one that is currently streaming.

So, what’s that going to look like? Well, coming off of I, Tonya, we’ll be jumping to 2020 and looking at Birds of Prey. When Goodbye Christopher Robin is available on streaming, we’ll circle back to it and cover it. All of Margot Robbie’s movies will still be covered, there just might be times where we go a few weeks without an installment.

In addition to the random installments in our Margot Robbie filmography watch through, we’ll be wrapping up 2022 by keeping tabs on progress in the There & Back Again scavenger hunt. My progress there can be followed on Letterboxd. In December there will also be a top 10 holiday movies post. Do you have your annual staples you watch each December? What films would make up your top 10?

Looking ahead to 2023, I’m kicking around a few different ideas. There might me a theme/director/actor of the month. Maybe a focus more on television. It is mostly all just in the brainstorming stages. If you have anything you’d like to see, see more of, or see changed, let me know by commenting below or reaching out on social media!

October can only mean one thing, spooky season is here.

As you may already know, I am racing towards the finish line of the #150DaysOfHorror challenge (currently sitting at 127 of 150). But, I also just enjoy horror movies, regardless of the time of year. So, I figured I’d try and do a weekly check-in to briefly discuss what I’ve seen recently that I’d recommend.

Shudder is arguably my favorite streaming service. The quantity and variety of what you have at your fingerprints for that price point, tough to beat. It should be no surprise that my recommendation of the week can be found streaming on Shudder. That honor goes to Speak No Evil.

The IMDb synopsis reads “A Danish family visits a Dutch family they met on a holiday. What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend slowly starts unraveling as the Danes try to stay polite in the face of unpleasantness.” That’s all you need to know going into this. Don’t look up spoilers, don’t ask around or look online, just go into it knowing as little as possible.

Another recent watch that was surprisingly enjoyable was 1989’s Intruder. This is one where you can watch the trailer, lookup spoilers, whatever you want to do before you watch it. Because the fun is in experiencing it yourself.

Official trailer for 1989’s Intruder

A fun slasher with some interesting kills. Grab some snacks, your beverage of choice, and get ready to have some schlocky fun with Intruder.

But it’s not just about what have I been watching. I also want to hear from YOU! Now that spooky season is here, what are some of your Halloween go-to movies? Do you have a new one you’re looking forward to? Tell me all about them in the comments below or by reaching out on social media!

Since we took a week off from the Margot Robbie filmography watch through, I figured it would be a good time for a weekend check-in of what else we’ve been watching.

If you remember back at the beginning of July, I had a post covering the Final Destination franchise. I had watched the franchise as a part of the #150DaysOfHorror challenge put on by Brad and Drew. Well, we are turning the final corner of that challenge with only 51 days until Halloween. And, well, I have some catching up to do. Currently, I have watched 93 of 150 which leaves me 51 days to watch 57 horror movies. Not impossible, but not exactly a walk in the park either.

While I don’t have all of the remaining 57 movies mapped out, I do have at least 6 locked in. That is because I am also participating in the #BingeMoviesChallenge put on by Jason from Binge Movies. To round out Season 6.3, I have 6 George A. Romero films waiting for me and am looking forward to diving in this weekend.

But wait, there’s more. Drew not only helped spearhead the #150DaysOfHorror challenge, he also decided to start a year long scavenger hunt as well that is officially titled “There & Back Again- A Year Long Movie Scavenger Hunt [April 2022 – March 2023]”. We have been referring to it as the T&BA challenge, or just simply the movie number and the theme that we’re currently watching. You can follow my journey on the TB&A challenge here. I have fallen a bit behind for the month of September. However, I should be caught up and have the whole month mapped out by the end of the weekend.

That was just a brief glimpse at what else I’ve been watching outside of Margot Robbie films, in terms of movies. As for television, we’re in that weird spot where a lot of shows are either ending or beginning new seasons. However, one I have really enjoyed so far is The Patient. Highly recommend giving that one a watch on Hulu, Steve Carell flexing his dramatic muscles is always a treat.

Enough about me though, what have you been watching lately? Give me your weekend check-in. What’s been a favorite find? An unfortunate dud? Tell me all about them in the comments below or on social media!

I’ll be back to start the week with more in the Margot Robbie filmography watch through. Be ready for The Legend of Tarzan as well as a look at a new trailer or two on the week.

The Final Destination franchise? In July? What is going on?

If you had those thoughts when reading the title for this post, allow me to explain.

Two good friends (Brad from The Cinema Guys and Drew from Reel Feels Podcast) put together a new horror movie challenge for 2022. Last year, the challenge was to watch 100 horror movies in the 100 days leading up to Halloween. This year they decided to up the ante. 150 horror movies in the 150 days leading up to Halloween (follow #150DaysOfHorror on Twitter to follow everyone’s progress and see what they are watching). They can be first-time watches, favorite re-watches, whatever tickles your fancy, as long as you watch 150. The challenge started on June 3rd, so we are about four weeks in as of today.

What is a good way to stay on track with a 150-day challenge? Franchises. If I have seen an entire franchise before, I will not re-watch it during a challenge like this. If I do, I won’t count it towards the challenge. That being said, the Final Destination franchise is one where I had only seen the first two installments and HBOMAX happened to have all 5 streaming. I am not here to analyze each one, more so to just talk about what I enjoyed of each and how I would rank them.

So last night I dove in and re-watched both Final Destination and Final Destination 2.

Final Destination trailer
Final Destination 2 trailer

The first one I remembered fondly and was happy to see that it still holds up. Honestly all that I vividly remembered from the second one was the entire log truck scene (to this day I still will immediately change lanes if I find myself behind a log truck). While part two did not rewrite what a sequel should be, it was a very enjoyable continuation of the story.

All that remained was three first-time watches. Boy, what a mixed bag of results.

Final Destination 3 trailer

The third installment, Final Destination 3, takes its own approach to things. The continuity in the overall story suddenly does not seem to be an important factor. Where it redeems itself and remains enjoyable is with the gore and kills. Over the top, gratuitous, and hilarious.

The fourth installment, The Final Destination, tries to follow in the third’s footsteps…

The Final Destination trailer

…and fails miserably. What a dumpster fire. While it was released 4 years prior to Sharknado, I could not help but sit there and laugh as I thought of a Final Destination/Sharknado movie. The story was the equivalent of word salad and any “wow” factor in the kills is diminished by how absolutely cheesy and cheap it looks. Luckily, this was not in-fact The Final Destination as we were given a fifth installment.

Final Destination 5 was released in 2011…

Final Destination 5 trailer

…and is arguably as good as, if not better, than Final Destination 2. The story makes sense, gels well with the original, and has plenty of gore and over the top ridiculousness in the kills for everyone to enjoy.

Overall, this franchise is one that I really enjoy. No, they are not all winners, but as a whole it is a fun and enjoyable journey. Here’s hoping the sixth one can follow in the footsteps of its predecessor.

If I were to rank the five installments, it would look something like this:

  1. Final Destination
  2. Final Destination 2
  3. Final Destination 5
  4. Final Destination 3 A drop off deeper than the Mariana Trench…
  5. The Final Destination

What say you?! Can you say, “I’ve Scene That!”? Have you seen the entire Final Destination franchise? If so, what do your rankings look like? Let me know in the comments below or by reaching out on social media.

And for all you horror movie lovers reading this, don’t forget to follow the #150DaysOfHorror on Twitter.

Better yet…start now, catch up, and join in on the fun!
