Trailer Reaction: Smile (2022)

Posted on June 28, 2022June 28, 2022 by scenethatreviews

If you have seen Top Gun: Maverick or Crimes of the Future, you have seen the teaser trailer for Smile. It shows a medical professional walking a hallway, she passes a room with a patient sitting on a bed smiling. She backs up to the room, camera focuses on the creepy patient smiling, fade to the title.

Now, if you are anything like me, your first thought was, “Anyone who smiles that much is clearly a psychopath. You need to run, lady. Now!” But it was impossible to get a feel for what the premise is.

Well, last week we were blessed with the official trailer…

We went from not knowing hardly anything to knowing too much all in the span of two minutes and twenty-three seconds. We did not need to know that the mysterious deaths were all linked together, that only 19 of the 20 had actually died, or that Rose (Sosie Bacon) was now in danger as well. These are all twists and turns that audiences should experience for the first time as they watch the actual movie.

That being said, the official trailer did a solid job in piquing my interest. While some things were unnecessarily spoiled, there are enough remaining unanswered questions that I want to see answered. How does this happen? Why does it continue to happen? Can it be stopped?

Smile will be the feature debut from Parker Finn, who both wrote and directed it. Based off of the initial trailer, Parker looks to be coming out of the gates swinging. I am on board and looking forward to Smile. What about you? What did you think of the official trailer for Smile? Will you be seeing it in theaters when it is released on September 30th?
