Soul (2017)

Posted on January 22, 2022January 22, 2022 by scenethatreviews
Title: Soul (2017)
Runtime: 75min
Directors: Àngel Parra and José Antonio Blanco
Watched via: iTunes rental

Soul is a documentary love letter to the culinary experience. We go on a journey that takes a look at gastronomy and the similarities and differences that go into the art of cooking based on your geographic region.
There are two chefs that are our main focus points. The first is Jiro Ono, famous and world renowned sushi chef at Sukiyabashi Jiro and known on a larger scale thanks to Jiro Dreams of Sushi. The second is Eneko Atxa, a self-taught Basque chef who is a five star Michelin restaurant owner.
We are given a look into the process of meal prep on a gourmet level. What goes into the thought process behind a dish, how traditions play a role in the creation of the dish, how the product is sourced and how it is selected, all things we as consumers of the finished product rarely take time to think about.
Whether you are creating a greenhouse/garden that you share with the community or selecting tuna at the market from only the highest respected dealers, one thing remains the same. Your dish is only as good as the amount of your soul you put into it.
