Welcome back for another edition of the Margot Robbie filmography watch through! After this week there will only be 5 more feature-length movies of Margot’s to cover before we are currently caught up. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves though, we have a sequel to look at with… Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021).

Official Sony Pictures Entertainment trailer for Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021)

Title: Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

Director: Will Gluck

Released: March 25, 2021 (Australia)

Runtime: 1 hour 33 minutes

Watched via: VOD rental

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021) picks up where the original leaves off. Bea (Rose Byrne) and Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson) are still happily together and in fact, they’re getting married. While most everyone seems happy about the marriage, Peter (James Corden) is a little hesitant of welcoming Thomas McGregor into his family. One thing is for sure, he won’t be calling Thomas “dad”.

After the wedding and honeymoon, Bea is hard at work on her book that is based on Peter and his posse. She catches a break when she is notified of a publisher that wants to distribute her book. After hearing the news, Bea and Thomas round up Peter, Flopsy (Margot Robbie), Mopsy (Elizabeth Debicki), Benjamin (Colin Moody), and Cottontail (Aimee Horne) to meet with the publisher.

Upon arrival, the publisher, Nigel Basil-Jones (David Oyelowo), tells Bea how everyone will love her book and be looking forward to the sequel. He goes so far as to suggest that Peter portray a “bad boy” and troublemaker type in the sequel. The marketing team even has some potential posters that show what they imagine Peter to look like as the troublemaker.

Understandably so, Peter is a little dejected after the meeting.

Why did nobody speak up and say that he’s nothing like that? Is that how everyone really sees him?

Well, if that’s the case, why not lean into being a troublemaker…

I have to admit, I was not looking forward to covering this one. More often than not, sequels wind up being nothing more than cash grabs. There are of course exceptions, and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021) happens to be one of them.

We get the original cast back, yes this even includes Margot as narrator again too. If you enjoyed the cast’s chemistry in the original, there’s plenty more where that came from. There are some new faces and voices as well such as Oyelowo, Horne, and Moody to name a few. Each of them fit in quite nicely.

The story gives us a natural progression of events, picking up where we left off in the original. We even see some character development with Peter as he matures. There are a few jokes for adults, plenty of laughs for kids, and it is all packaged into a tight 93-minute runtime.

All in all, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021) is just as enjoyable as its predecessor.
