Up next from this year’s Locarno Film Festival is an animated short from the “Panorama Suisse” section titled Thanks, You Too.

Two birds, an owl and an oystercatcher, meet by accident when they literally run into each other. After exchanging pleasantries, the owl invites the oystercatcher over for a dinner. The oystercatcher doesn’t know it, but this interaction was the start of a new friendship.
The animation style reminded me of something you’d see in the late ’90s, but not in a bad way. The story itself had plenty of humor packed into the ten minute runtime. As someone who is more introverted than others, I’ve absolutely been in situations like the oystercatcher. You’re wanting to be polite and friendly but at the same time you’re exhausted and overwhelmed by the other person’s extroversion.
Thanks, You Too is a light and enjoyable watch. Can’t ask for much more than that from an animated short.
