The Offer: A Seat at the Table

I previously gave my reactions to the trailer of The Offer and thought I would do the same for the premiere episode. Episode one of The Offer titled A Seat at the Table premiered on Paramount+ April 28th.

It opens with a shot of Little Italy. As we’re going through the streets within the first minute we hear the infamous line, “Leave the cannoli”. Right away they have me hooked. If hearing that line didn’t hook you, then seeing Matthew Goode as Bob Evans surely did the trick. From there, we see Albert (Al) Ruddy (Miles Teller) who sees Evans at a party and decides he wants to be in show business.

Now outside of a book signing, we meet a dejected Mario Puzo (Patrick Gallo) after only three people showed up. Once they are at home he admits to his wife (Victoria Kelleher) just how much debt they are in. She then pushes him to write about the mafia. She says not to approach from a killing standpoint, but instead, what makes us want to kill? Mario then decides that the story will be about a gangster’s family and goes on to describe what becomes the outline for The Godfather.

I am not a fan of spoiling anything. What happens from here is worth watching for yourself. Miles Teller, Juno Temple, the entire cast, they all turn in great performances. As someone not familiar with what went into the making of The Godfather, I found this premiere episode fascinating. The handling of interweaving of storylines between the behind-the-scenes workings in Hollywood, the mafia, and just how difficult it was to start writing the script to begin with, is all done incredibly well. They give us enough suspense to draw us in and keep us wanting more. The cliffhanger ending of episode one definitely made me want to continue the binge of the first three episodes.

Have you seen The Offer: A Seat at the Table? If you have, what did you think? Will you continue watching? Will you be able to say, “I’ve Scene That!”? Let me know in the comments below or on social media!
